Tired and sorely disappointed at this product. There's no volume control and the voice activation doesn't work?

Purchased this product to help soothe our baby , but it does the opposite :(

This is a nice soother. Nice that you can record your voice and hook to a crib. It is a little loud and I wish it would have a night light option, but over all it does it's job.

It's in the name - cry activated soother. Why does it stay silent not a single sound even when the baby is crying down the whole house. What a let down especially for Christmas

I'm glad this was a gift, but I feel bad my mother spent money on it. There are so many things wrong with it and I hope this review helps others but also helps the development team make this into a better product.

1. To turn on the cry activation, you first have to listen to 20 minutes of the sound. It would make so much more sense to have two options - sound on constantly, or only cry activated.

2. The cry activation, simply put, does not work. My baby will be wailing and it won't make a peep. And then when the room is completely silent, it kicks on. In one night this thing probably turns on 30 times while my baby cries maybe two or three times.

3. There is absolutely no volume control, and I personally think this thing is incredibly loud. I hear it clear as day through the baby monitor, even with my speaker volume on low, and it wakes me up every time. Which would be fine if it only kicked on when the baby cried, but see point #2.

4. The voice recording feature is terrible. I spoke directly into the microphone, and it sounded like I was underwater. Very muffled and hard to hear.

Overall I'm really disappointed in this, I think it's poorly designed. The only thing I like about it is that it's cute.

We bought this as a Christmas gift for my 11 month old and think it is absolutely adorable. She loves it and plays with the ribbon tail to soothe herself to sleep. However, I dislike that it doesnt cycle through a series of songs on it's own, it only plays the one song over and over again. The cry-activate feature has only worked 1 random time and never again, I have even tested it on my own by yelling right next to it and making a bunch of noise, it just doesn't work. And lastly, the blue blinking light is awful! It is so bright and blinks every 5 seconds. It literally lights up my daughters entire pitch black bedroom and keeps her awake because she tries to touch it. I would definitely not recommend buying this for its intended purpose. The stuffed animal part does, however, seem to be well made and appears that it will last awhile. And I do like how the buttons are flat on the music box part, so she cannot easily press them, but due to it not functioning properly I will be taking the music box part out of another soother to use in this one instead.

I bought this excited to try for my teething 5 month old but the cry activator doesn't work. It blinks twice but nothing happens. I have read all the instructions given and even tried googling "how to" and nothing seems to work. Its just an overpriced noise machine for a crib

Yes just one day, I don't know what happened I turn in on and last a few seconds also I recorded my voice, I heard reply it like twice

Great idea but the that flashing blue light is so poorly designed. Unnecessary and so bright in baby dark room.

I bought this for my two month old baby when she was only a month and every time it plays she smiles she also loves looking at the when in her crib. It's adorable!

My baby loved this very much and I highly recommend it!

Recieved as a gift for Christmas. We tried using it while transitioning our daughter from bassinet to her crib and not once has it responded to her crying. The noises and lullabies are loud (at least for her, myself and husband) with no way to turn the volume down. The flashing blue light that MUST be on to indicate the soother is listening for crying is positively eye searing in a dark room. Nothing about this soother is soothing. Save your money and spend it elsewhere.

I really loved this unicorn. It is very soft and cute. The crying soother fits snugly in the unicorns back. It can be held and played with or attached to the crib. It is cry activated fir baby with a recording. I would recommend.

It plays continuously for up to 20 min. It's easy to install and use. And when baby gets to be toddler age, it can be removed and be a stuffed animal friend. So awesome! The Skip Hop Unicorn Cry-activated Soother is parent's best friend. It's basically a soothing sleep machine, similar to white noise machines adults use, in the body of a cute cuddly little unicorn.
The unicorn, itself, is precious. It's extremely tactile with soft cloth ears and a smooth vinyl horn. My little one likes to grasp and chew on the little tag like ribbons.
It's designed to hang on the side of baby's crib. The front and back legs velcro together to attack to the railing. I also attach it to the stroller railing.
It automatically responds when baby cries to play soothing sounds(3), music(3) or even my own voice which I can record!
It requests 3 AA batteries which are included, so it's ready to use right out of the box. It makes the perfect baby shower or baby gift.

This toy at first glance is adorable! Super soft and way to wipe clean. I was not a fan of the cry activated soother portion. The sounds worked very well for both baby and older sibling for bedtime. Also worked really well for oldest child who has a hard time falling asleep (at 8 yo).

I have a teething little one right now and although I use normal remedies, this has come to my rescue! It gets her attention and keeps it! This is a very smart device! Soothing and relaxing. I highly recommend this as it helps with keeping baby happy!

The baby unicorn is amazing. The soothing music sounds soothes my little one. The really amazing thing I liked about the unicorn. Is the voice recorder. You can record your voice or other soothing sounds or music. I would recommend this to all littles an to all mom's an dad's.

I love this unicorn cry-activated soother. It is soft, plush, a great color, and overall adorable. It fits perfectly with the baby items I have already purchased for my little one and will be great as she grows into having it as a toy as well. I like that it is cry-activated and doesn't need to be on and soothing at all times. I would highly recommend it to others looking for a soother for their babies.

This unicorn is so adorable and it has been a bedtime and naptime savior! My baby responds to it so well and goes right back to sleep. I love that you can record your own message in it, it calms her down and half the time she will go back to sleep without me coming in and when it doesnt shes either had a dirty diaper, had a bubble or was hungry. I wish I had this with my other two girls. My two year old loves actually just playing with it, she loves unicorns!

Super cute musical soother. I have it set up in the car for my baby while we drive.It is attaches so easily it to the crib and carseat, But I like the music options and I love how I can record my own voice for her.

So, I was skeptical with this product like most soothers. Trying to calm a baby isn't easy. But this cute unicorn soother has now changed my mind! My favorite part is it allows for me to record a voice to help calm the crying babe. Along with other cool soother sounds, etc. I highly recommend!

The Skip Hop Unicorn Cry Activated Soother works so wonderfully well that I am now on a mission to buy one for all of my friends with babies. It responds well to fussing and crying by immediately playing lullabies, nature sounds (including heartbeat in the womb), and my own voice recorded message. I just told her I love her over and over...... This really did distract her from crying and soothe her right back to sleep. GENIUS! It's super easy to set up; just push one button to record. The little sound box is secured with a Velcro strap and takes a bit of twisting/wiggling to get it installed in the back of the unicorn so it's not going anywhere until I decide to remove it. You will have to remove the sound box to change batteries and wash the stuffed unicorn. OH YEAH! IT IS MACHINE WASHABLE!!!!

The Cry-Activated Soother works great for my son. As soon as he starts crying it activates and it will play soothing unicorn songs and sounds. The sounds are like white noise, baby heartbeat, and mothers heartbeat.You can record a message for your little one to. The plush is soft and can be attached to a crib, car seat or stroller with the Velcro on the hands and feet.

I received this sloth soother in exchange for my honest review. First Skip Hop this unicorn is super adorable and I love that it can be hung on the crib or can be used when they get older as a plush. I love how you can record your voice to keep your baby calmed and soothed through out the night. The lullabies are nice and soothing as well. Great product for the littles. Thanks Skip Hop.

Skip*hop cry activated unicorn is a soft and cuddly friend for my baby. The different textures are amazing the tummy, back and head is very soft, the arms, face and feet are very plush like. Her horn is a very shiny soft leather-like material, and several ribbons for tail and hair. The colors are very soft and pretty, the speckles on arms are very well put together and love the choice of colors. The feet have two velcro circles that attach to hands to hold firmly in place on bed or crib and these work very well. I love the music, microphone and cry activator. All work very well the music is very soothing and not too loud. The microphone can record messages for my baby and helps her sleep when I am away with the push of a button. When my baby hears my voice in the unicorn she gets very happy. The music box device was a bit hard to get in at first but is held in place very secure and my little one will not be able to take this out. I like that the music device is not big or bulky so you are able to cuddle comfortable at night with this product. Product is very lightweight and easy for my baby to take around my home with her. My baby loves this unicorn to pieces and has slept with this unicorn every night. She will go look for her unicorn and cry if she can not find it. This unicorn means the world to her and this is by far her favorite and comforting buddy to sleep with at night.

This is not worth the money. It's a stuffed animal that plays a sound for all of two minutes and shuts off. The person who designed the flashing blue light also needs to be fired. I would demand my money back.

I bought this for my daughter and her baby to be. I tried it and it is perfect as not only can it sooth an infant with music but one can record their own voice! Great idea and perfect for babies!

Purchased for soon-to-be great granddaughter. Hoping that hearing a familiar recorded voice helps soothe her when she cries. Item is soft and cuddly but also glad there is way to connect to crib.

i have so many items from skip hop that i love - and i should have waited for reviews to come in. some very poor functioning design features:
1. i thought the songs would play on a shuffle instead of a continuous loop so she has to listen to the same song until it shuts off. it should at least be an option
2. the buttons need to light up when the feature is on instead of the flashing blue light - which is stimulating. when you're trying to put baby down, you can't see what buttons you're clicking so they need to have a dim light behind the buttons .
3. the voice record button and "cry activator" button - which also doesn't work. i wanted to have my husband who's is a first responder to say "good night" so she always could hear her dad day goodnight - so very disappointed.

Very cute! My 6 month old daughter takes a lot of interest in it. My only complaint is i do feel its overpriced.

So. I love the design but it plays the same melody on a 10 second loop which is more annoying than soothing.
When you put it on the cry sensor mode the blue light that flashes is so extremely bright that is lights up the entire room.
The cry sensor doesn't seem to work either. I let my daughter cry for a few minutes waiting to see if it would kick on but nope nothing happened. I will be now making the almost two hour drive to return it.
