This astronaut light is influenced by man’s eternal fascination with the Moon, and makes the perfect nightlight on a kid’s bedside table, in a teen’s room, or as a feature lighting piece in a living room space.
The piece is sculpturally rich in detail, including tiny twinkling stars, the space agency logo and, as a tribute to David Bowie, the suit is emblazoned with the name Major S.Tarman. The footprints on the surface of the moon are an invitation to follow in his footsteps and join him on his adventure.
Its moveable arms allows for a bit of extra creativity - position him with a “thumb’s up” when he likes something, have him wave to a friend, or even set him up with a hitch-hiker’s stance with a piece of cardboard scribbled “mars” in his hand : Starman is ready to have fun traveling the Galaxy. His hand was also designed to hold a pen. The possibilities are endless…
This retro spaceman is reminiscent of 20th century space exploration and the intricately sculpted suit is based on the Apollo 11 mission outfit worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin as they landed on the moon.
The Designer Says:
Newton was keen to imbue The Starman Lamp with a sense of wonder – akin to the feeling he had as a kid while watching the space shuttle launches: dream BIG and be adventurous!
“For me the dream was landing on the moon, but nowadays it’s life on Mars that is becoming a possibility. Kids and adults alike are intrigued by the thought of moving to another planet, and our obsession with space travel is as relevant as ever.”
