Meet the New Axkid Car Seats: The One 3 and the Up

Albee Baby

Dear Parents,

Meet Axkid.

Axkid is a Swedish child safety company specializing in extended rear-facing car seats. Founded in 2009 in Gothenburg by Tony Qvist and Tony Broberg, the brand is widely recognized for its commitment to high safety standards and Scandinavian design. Born from a rich Swedish heritage of safety innovation, Axkid mission is (and has been) centered on the belief that children should travel rear-facing for as long as possible, pioneering a movement to keep children rear-facing—and fundamentally safer—for as long as possible.  They are known for patented technologies like Sliding Seat Technology, which allows the seat to be adjusted on rails for extra legroom, and ASIP (Axkid Side Impact Protection) developed with German crash institutes.

Instead of settling for standard European regulations, Axkid pushes the limits by subjecting their seats to extreme "overtesting" and the world's toughest crash evaluation. Axkid seats are famously developed according to the Swedish Plus Test, which is considered the world's most rigorous car seat safety test because it measures critical neck forces during a frontal impact. By engineering gear that masters the unpredictable moments of reality, Axkid delivers the biggest helping of peace of mind, allowing you to sleep a little better at night (or when you child is out with someone who may not be the best driver).

Axkid at Albee Baby

We are thrilled to introduce two of Axkid's standout models to our store—the Axkid One 3 and the Axkid Up. The Axkid ONE 3 is a premium ISOFIX car seat designed to keep children in the safest rear-facing position for as long as possible. According to Axkid, it is the only ISOFIX seat on the market certified for rear-facing use up to 7 years of age. The Axkid Up is a forward-facing high-back booster that introduces patented HeightControl™ technology to ensure a perfect fit as the child grows.

Axkid One 3 (Rear-Facing)

Axkid One 3 is the rear-facing option in this launch, built around Sweden’s long-standing focus on keeping kids rear-facing for as long as possible. It’s designed for long-term use—approved for ages 0–7 years, with rear-facing limits of 11–40 lbs. using rigid LATCH and 11–65 lbs. using the vehicle seat belt. You get clear visual indicators, installation described as taking under 30 seconds, and adjustable legroom after installation (up to about 12 inches) so the fit can stay comfortable as your child gets taller. One 3 also leans into long service life (10 years), includes ASIP, uses a no-rethread 5-point harness, and has a washable cover. The included toddler insert is required for 11–30 lbs. per their instructions.

Axkid positions One 3 as a Swedish Plus Test certified seat (a label parents ask about more and more), and they also lean hard into “real-life use” details: quick installation steps, clear indicators, a solid frame, and legroom adjustment after installation.

Why the Axkid One 3 Should Catch Your Eye

1) It’s built specifically for rear-facing use

The whole design is geared toward staying rear-facing longer. Rear-facing is safer because, in a frontal crash, the car seat shell supports a child’s head, neck, and spine together and spreads crash forces across the back instead of letting the head whip forward. Young kids have proportionally heavier heads and less-developed neck structures, so forward-facing impacts can put much higher stress on the neck and spinal cord. Rear-facing seats cradle and move with the child to reduce stress on the fragile neck and spinal cord.

2) Installation is built to be simple.

Axkid did a nice job here—there are clear visual indicators that help you know you’re set up correctly, so you’re not second-guessing yourself every time you move the seat or switch cars. You can check your work at a glance as the connections, positioning, and setup cues are all designed to be obvious. When you’re done, you can actually tell things are in the right place.

3) Adjustable legroom after installation

With One 3, you can install the seat and then change the legroom later (without starting over). Axkid builds in a sliding system that lets you move the seat forward or backward once it’s in the car, so you can give your child more space as they get taller. That’s helpful in smaller vehicles, because you can also slide it back when you need a little more room up front, then slide it forward again for longer rides. It’s a simple thing to do that helps keep extended rear-facing comfortable for a lot longer.

4) The comfort

The One 3 seat is padded in a way that is comfortable without feeling bulky. Axkid uses memory foam in the seating area for a softer, more supportive feel, and they include a toddler insert to help smaller kids sit snug and stable. The fit stays “held in place” instead of slouchy, which helps on longer drives and even nap-prone afternoons.

Axkid Up

When it is finally time to transition to a forward-facing seat, the Axkid Up brings the brand's core values of knowledge, innovation, dedication, and sustainability directly to the booster years (ages 4 to 12).

The Axkid Up is a forward-facing high-back booster designed for kids roughly 4–12 years old. Its whole identity is belt fit . . . keeping the lap belt low across the hips and the shoulder belt across the center of the chest/shoulder as kids grow. The headline feature here is Axkid’s raisable seating position (paired with an adjustable backrest) so your child sits at a height that helps the vehicle belt sit in the right places while secured.

Why We Love the Axkid Up

1) The raisable seat keeps belt fit dialed in as your kid grows

Most boosters stay the same size while your child grows inches every year. Axkid Up has a raisable seating position, so you can adjust how high your child sits in the car. That helps keep the lap belt sitting low across the hips and the shoulder belt landing in a clean, centered spot as their body changes from “little kid” to “almost teenager.” And it's comfortable, too, so you'll be way less likely to turn around and see the belt hiding behind your kid's back (or some other creative-yet-dangerous application of the belt).

2) The support leg adds stability when you install with rigid LATCH

You don’t see a load leg on a booster very often, and it’s here for a reason: extra stability in everyday use. If you install Up with rigid LATCH, the load leg becomes part of that setup. If you’re using the seat in belt-only mode, the load leg stays stowed.

3) The comfort add-ons help with the daily “please just sit still” reality

A footrest and cup holder sound inconsequential until the booster becomes your child’s everyday seat. In the real-world application, the footrest gives your child's legs somewhere to go, which helps him or her stay comfortable on longer drives. The cup holder keeps the water bottle close for easy access.

The Simple Way to Choose Between One 3 and Up

This is not a complicated choice once you match the seat to the stage. These car seats follow each other, not compete with each other. It really just depends on your child's size (weight and/or height).

Choose Axkid One 3 if . . .
  • Your child is still rear-facing (or you want them rear-facing longer).
  • You want a seat designed around rear-facing longevity and install clarity.
  • You like the idea of adjustable legroom after install.
Choose Axkid Up if . . .
  • Your child is ready for booster mode and you want a high-back booster that focuses hard on belt fit.
  • You want rigid LATCH stability as an option.
  • You want a booster that’s designed to adapt across the 4–12 year window instead of feeling “static.”

Axkid’s own guidance still leans rear-facing as long as possible. If your kid still fits rear-facing and your setup supports it, that’s typically the direction safety experts recommend sticking with until you hit the limits of the seat (either height OR weight limit, whichever comes first--but not both at the same time).

Axkid One 3 FAQs

Q: What kind of seat is the Axkid One 3?

A: It’s a rear-facing car seat built for extended rear-facing use, with a 5-point harness.

Q: What is the weight and age limit for the Axkid One 3?

A: The One 3 is designed for children 0–7 years old. It accommodates 11–40 lbs. with rigid-LATCH, and 11–65 lbs. with the vehicle seat belt (up to 49 inches tall). Note: It can be used from 5 lbs+ with the infant insert.

Q: What is the difference between the older Axkid One 2 in Europe and the new One 3?

A: Axkid took a great seat and made it even better. The One 3 features softer, more breathable nature-inspired fabrics, upgraded padding for long road trips, a smoother recline system, and magnetic harness attachments to keep the straps out of the way when loading your child.

Q: What is the Swedish Plus Test?

A: It’s a voluntary crash test that puts extra focus on neck protection in a frontal impact. Seats that pass earn a label.

Q: What is the SpaceFlow™ feature?

A: SpaceFlow™ is Axkid’s sliding legroom technology. It allows you to adjust the legroom up to 12 inches without removing the car seat. This ensures a compact fit when your child is small, and massive legroom as they approach 7 years old.

Q: Does the Axkid One 3 recline?

A: Yes! The SleepWell™ system lets you easily adjust the recline angle of the seat. This enables a more relaxed resting position to prevent your child's head from falling forward when they fall asleep during car journeys.

Q: Is the seat heavy to move between cars?

A: Not at all. Despite its solid safety frame, the One 3 weighs just 22 lbs. Combined with a secure, 6-step rigid-LATCH installation that takes under 30 seconds, it is surprisingly easy to move between vehicles.

Q: Can my older child get into the seat by themselves?

A: Yes. The seat features an EasyClimb™ solid frame with an open design, making it safe and easy for older, independent children to climb in and out on their own.

Axkid Up FAQs

Q: What are the size limits of the Axkid Up Booster Seat?

A: Axkid lists 40–120 lb and 43.3–60 inches.

Q: What makes the HeightControl™ system different from a regular booster?

A: Most high-back boosters only raise the headrest. The Axkid Up’s patented HeightControl™ system actually raises the seating position as well. By adjusting your child's height relative to the car, it guarantees that the vehicle’s seat belt is positioned perfectly across their hips and shoulders, allowing the car’s built-in safety systems to work exactly as they were designed to.

Q: Why does the Axkid Up have an open belt guide instead of a closed loop?

A: Clarity and safety. Closed belt guides and chest pads can create friction, which leads to dangerous slack in the seatbelt. The Up’s large open design minimizes belt redirection, allowing the belt to naturally fall into the optimal position and instantly retract if your child leans forward.

Q: Does the Axkid Up have a recline function?

A: No. Axkid specifically designed the Up without a recline feature because maintaining the smallest possible gap between the vehicle seat and the booster seat is crucial for forward-facing crash safety.

Q: Can I fit three Axkid Up seats across the back row?

A: Yes! The Axkid Up features flexible, removable side wings (SnapGuard™). Once your child reaches approx. 49.5 inches, you can remove the side wings to create more space in the back seat, easily accommodating three seats in a row while the headrest continues to keep your child protected.

Q: Why is there no chest pad or fourth attachment point on the Up?

A: Axkid relies on rigorous crash-test data. Their tests show that extra chest pads or a fourth belt point involve re-routing the seatbelt. This risks creating slack and can cause serious injury to the child’s pelvis in the event of a crash. The safest method is a highly optimized, frictionless three-point vehicle belt.

Safety + standards FAQs

Q: Why do safety-focused brands push rear-facing for longer?

A: In a crash, rear-facing seats support the head/neck/spine together and reduce stress on a young child’s neck. NHTSA also recommends keeping kids rear-facing as long as possible within the seat’s limits.

Q: What is R129 / i-Size (Europe) and why do people mention it?

A: R129 (often called i-Size) is a European regulation that moved car seats toward height-based classification and added requirements like side-impact testing (plus other updates).

Q: How is the Swedish Plus Test different from R129?

A: The Plus Test is a separate, voluntary test with a strong focus on neck load/neck protection in a frontal impact; some safety educators note R129 does not set the same type of neck-load limits.

We’re excited to bring Axkid into our lineup because it helps further fill a real gap for families who take car seat safety seriously: extended rear-facing for longer with the One 3, plus a high-back booster that puts belt fit front and center with the Up. These are the kinds of seats parents usually discover after a lot of research, and we love 'em.

When you buy Axkid from Albee Baby, you’re also buying from a US retailer that’s been doing this a (very) long time. We’re family-owned (since our founding in 1933) and our storefront is in NYC.
